The Human Route
Coming empty-handed, going empty-handed – that is human. When you are born, where do you come from? When you die, where do you go? Life is like a floating cloud which appears. Death is like a floating cloud which disappears. The floating cloud itself Originally does not exist. Life and death, coming and going, are also like that. But there is one thing which always remains clear. It is pure and clear, not depending on life and death.
Then what is the one pure and clear thing?
~ancient Zen poem

Through the Cambridge Zen Center, programs for Zen
meditation are accessible both at the center and at various locations
throughout the greater Boston area. At our center, extensive training
is also available for deepening our path of the bodhisattva. Opportunities for longer retreats and kyol che (three month long Zen meditation retreats) are also
available through the affiliated Kwan Um School of Zen temples and centers worldwide.
PracticeZen
training consists of formal and informal training. Formal training is
provided at our center following the tradition and forms of Korean Zen
Buddhist teaching and principles. Sitting, bowing and chanting are the
main practice forms, along with kong-an interviews with a Zen master or
Ji Do Poep Sa Nim (certified teacher). Practice is available
morning and evening, 365 days a year. Retreats from one day up to three
months are offered for extensive meditation experience. Informally,
the center provides residential and non-residential training in
community life. Zen master Seung Sahn teaches us that the best
way to attain Enlightenment and change our karma is by living and
practicing together. Through the structure and support of living
together, we can skillfully use our practice in our everyday life to help all beings in all situations, moment to moment.
